Home Energy Saving

Efficient energy use, sometimes simply called energy efficiency, is using less energy to provide the same level of comfort . For example, insulating a home allows a building to use less fuel to achieve and maintain a comfortable temperature. Efficient energy use is achieved primarily by means of a more efficient technology or processes rather than by changes in individual behaviour.

Our technicians and contractors have been product specific trained both here and abroad, and are fully trained in  Biomass & Solar. We are registered installers with ECSSA; REIA, SEAI.

Energy Survey what is it ?

A home energy audit is the first step to assess how much energy your home consumes and to evaluate what measures you can take to make your home more energy efficient. An audit will show you problems that may, when corrected, save you significant amounts of money over time. During the audit, we will pinpoint where your house is losing energy. Audits also determine the efficiency of your home's heating system. An audit will also show you ways to conserve hot water and electricity.

Our technicians use a variety of techniques and equipment to determine the energy efficiency of a structure. Thorough audits use equipment such as blower doors, which measure the extent of leaks in the building envelope, and infrared cameras, which reveal hard-to-detect areas of air infiltration and missing insulation. We will provide you a survey report which will include thermographic scans and digital images of your problem areas. We will then sit down with you and, together, you can review where your home is losing energy, and the different solutions for those energy inefficiencies

Preparing for an Energy Survey

Before we visit your house, make a list of any existing problems such as condensation and uncomfortable or drafty rooms. Have copies of the home's yearly energy bills. We use this information to establish what to look for during the Survey. We will visually inspect the outside of your home to determine the size of the house and its features (i.e., wall area, number and size of windows and sheltered sides).

We also need to know how you use your home.

· Is anyone home during the day?
· What is the average thermostat setting for summer and winter?
· How many people live here?
. Is every room in use?

Your answers may help uncover some simple ways to reduce your household's energy consumption. Walk through your home with us as we carry out the survey.

Why use Insulation?

Heat will always flow from a warm area to a cold one. In winter, the colder it is outside, the faster heat from your home will escape into the surrounding air. It is therefore vital that as much as possible is done to prevent this. Insulation makes it much more difficult for heat to pass through your house exterior. Filling up the exterior walls, roof and ground floor with insulation will greatly reduce what is known as the U value. The lower the U value, the slower heat is lost - and the less energy you need to keep your home warm. It is therefore imperative that considerable time is devoted to ensuring the new build is insulated to the highest possible standard.

Better Energy Home scheme grants.

The Better Energy Home (BEH) scheme provides assistance to homeowners who are interested in improving the energy efficiency of their home in order to reduce energy use and costs and greenhouse gas emissions. It is a national scheme and thus open to all owners of existing houses

What is a BER?

A BER (Building Energy Rating) is an energy label used to indicate the Energy performance of your home. The label has a scale of A-G. A-rated homes are the most energy efficient and G the least efficient. BER assessments also help determine compliance to Technical Guidance Document (TGD) Part L on new dwellings. BER’s must be carried out by specially trained BER assessors, registered by Sustainable Energy Ireland (SEAI). A list of BER Assessors is available on the SEAI website. All new homes (even when not for sale) must have a BER certificate before they are occupied as detailed under S.I. 666.
